Multi-purpose sensor
A multi-purpose sensor control based on the invention «The consecutive dynamic functional device»
(Application ÐÑÒ /RU2005/000309 from 06.06.05. RF Patent Application ¹ 2007146482 from 18.12.07).
The invention represents a chain transistor pixels (see Fig.1). Each pixel is a sensor control reacting to certain type of external influence, for example: temperature, a magnetic field, radiation, gases, pressure etc. Association of sensor pixels by special way in system-chain has allowed to improve ten times sensitivity of system-chain to external influence in comparison with a single sensor control. It is reached by summation in time of pixel chain signals which are defined by external influences. In other words, each pixel of a chain represents the elementary electric circuit consisting from ÌÎS or bipolar transistors and resistors which change own characteristics under the influence of external factors.

Fig.1
The important advantages of a multi-purpose sensor control are:
-
possibility of association of various types sensor controls (temperature, a magnetic field, visible radiation, etc.) on one crystal (chip), owing to dependence of electrophysical parametres of pixel elements (the transistor, the resistor) from the specified external influences is possible;
-
adaptability to manufacture as it can be executed on the basis of standard CMOS process;
-
high reliability of work as refusal of one or several pixels will not lead to refusal of work of all sensor control as the principle of action of a chain-sensor control is similar to a chain of a DNA biological molecule;
-
the sensor control consumes not enough energy as chain pixels work consistently, but not simultaneously;
-
the design of a multi-purpose sensor control has only three electric contacts and can be placed in the standard transistor case;
-
low cost of a multi-purpose sensor control is defined by simple and standard manufacturing techniques (see Fig. 2), providing practically 100 % yield.
Using of the given invention will allow to create, for example:
-
cheap temperature sensor controls with accuracy better than 0,01 îÑ in a wide range of temperatures from –200 to 500 îÑ . For example, such sensor control can be used in preventive maintenance of oncological diseases at placing of sensor controls on the flexible material located on a body of the person;
-
magnetic field sensor controls with sensitivity of a magnetic induction 10 -6-1000 millitesla;
-
hydrogen and other gases of metane group sensor controls with sensitivity not worse than 10 –4 %;
-
pressure sensor controls in a range of 10 -3-1000 Torr;
-
cheap and reliable matrixes for liquid crystal screens control;
-
high-speed "purely electronic" wireless scanner without an electromechanical drive. Development is carried out by consecutive operation of chain pixels (similarly to “a running line of advertising”). Reliability of work and cheapness of the scanner is provided with internal duplication (reservation) of device pixels.
The action principle and efficiency of a multi-purpose sensor control have been checked up on an operating breadboard model (see photos, Fig. 3) which is executed from discrete electronic components – bipolar transistors and resistors.
Manufacturing of pre-production models of multi-purpose sensor controls in integrated execution on the basis of standard CMOS process will demand no more than 30 000 USD. The expected cost of a sensor control (temperature or magnetic field) does not exceed 1 USD.
